I know you want your students to always give the right answer. But let me tell you a secret: mistakes are not the enemy. They are the first step to success.
Think like this: if a child never falls, can he ever learn to walk? No. Same is with learning. When a student makes a mistake, his brain wakes up. He thinks, "Why is this wrong? Let me try another way." This trying again is where creativity comes from.
But what usually happens in our schools? A student gives a wrong answer. The teacher says, "Shabash! Kia yeh jawab hai?" (Well done! Is this the answer?) Or worse, the teacher scolds him in front of everyone. The student feels shame. Next time, he keeps quiet. He stops trying. He only copies from the topper. He becomes a machine, not a thinker.
My request to all teachers: Please do not discourage mistakes. Instead, say, "Acha, tum ne yeh kyon socha? Let's see what we can learn from this." (Okay, why did you think this? Let's see…)
When you allow small mistakes in class, you are giving your students a big gift. You are telling them: "It's okay to try. It's okay to be wrong. Just don't give up."
A student who is afraid to make a mistake will never invent anything new. But a student who is allowed to stumble… that student will one day stand strong and solve real problems.
So next time, take a deep breath. Smile. And say: "Beta, mistake karo, seekho, aur aage badho." (Make mistakes, learn, and move forward.)
Your students will remember you for life.
